Within our double township, our Public Works Department oversees all infrastructures within our Urban and Rural areas. This includes all storm water drainage systems, streets, roadways, culvert installations, sidewalks, bridges, dams, street lighting, street/road signage, snow removal, pavement, chip sealing and crack sealing and lawn maintenance to all Town owner property.

Within the winter seasonally, we complete all snow removal to an additional 16 miles of State Aid Roadways, and complete all snow removal for the local School District.

BUILDINGS AND GROUND:

With obtaining Council approval, we have one full time employee who completes all light building maintenances and general cleaning for all Town owned facilities during the year. This includes Town Office, Police Department, Library, Armory, Recreation Department, Farm Park Bathroom Facilities and Public Works Department.

This employee with the assistance of a part time summer person completes the lawn care for Main Street, Block House, Library, Town Office, Fire Department, Recreation Department, Puddle Dock Facility, Two Cemeteries, Boat Landing Area, Monson Pond Camping, Farm Park Area, and several acres of green space within our Township.

Public Works Equipment:

Within the Public Works Department, we maintain and operate over fifty different pieces of equipment. Within our fleet are three pick-ups, two one-ton dumps, eight dump trucks, one trailer dump, two pay loaders, two road graders, two bulldozers, a street sweeper, a rubber tired backhoe, a gravel screen plant and five different trailers ranging from a 25 ton low bed to an eight by eight utility trailer.

With our in-house staff, we complete all repairs, servicing and State of Maine Inspection for all Municipal (Police, Fire, Recreation and Public Works) vehicles.

Public Works also services and maintains two 12,000-gallon fuel tanks and provides a 24-hour fueling system for Police Dept, Fire Dept, Recreation Dept, Water/Sewer Dept, SAD # 20, and the Housing Authority.

Body Shop:

The Town of Fort Fairfield has and operates an O.S.H.A. approved body shop for heavy equipment. This shop is seventy-five feet long by twenty-five feet wide and has sixteen-foot ceilings. With having a qualified body person, we are able to complete all aspects of this operation under one roof. With obtaining Town Council Approval, we now offer this service to other public works municipals within the area. We are now expanding this to also include any other municipal departments.
