The Fort Fairfield Fire Department consist of 1 full time employee and about 20 to 30 paid/call firefighters. The Department covers 72 square miles with a population of approximately 3,600 People.
The Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue Dept provides the following services to the Town of Fort Fairfield: Suppression, Rescue, EMS, HAZMAT, Inspections, & Fire-Life Safety Education. We respond to approximately 350 emergency requests a year. We run out of 1 station with 7 pieces of apparatus.
The Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue Dept provides automatic aid to the Town of Limestone/Caswell. We also provide mutual aid to the following communities Presque Isle, Caribou, Easton, Mars Hill, Loring, and Perth Andover, New Brunswick.

Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue - Apparatus
Engine 2: 2004 Sterling, 1250 gallons water, 1250 GPM, CAFS systems. First out Engine for all structure fires in town. Second out Engine for all structure fires in the country. Engine 2 is also the first out for all mutual aid and automatic aid calls. Engine 2 carries our dept’s Thermal Imaging Camera.
Engine Rescue 3: 2004 Sterling, 1250 gallons water, 1250 GPM, CAFS systems. First out Engine for all structure fires in the country. It also serves as are second out engine for all fires in town. It also is the first out Engine for all Motor Vehicle Accidents, car fires, & HAZMAT calls. This Engine is also used as second out for all EMS calls. This Engine Rescue also contains our Holmatro Extrication tools.
Ladder 1: 1982 Thibault Aerial, 100’ Aerial, 300 gallons water, & 750 GPM. Ladder 1 also has an aerial waterway that is integrated to the 75’ level. Ladder 1 responds out to all commercial fire alarms, chimney fires, structure fires, & etc. Ladder 1 also is first out for any technical rescue (confined space, water rescue, trench rescue, high angle and low angle rescue). The Limestone Fire Dept also shares this.
Tanker 1: 1997 Western Star, 5000-gallon water tank. It is first out tanker for structure fires outside hydrant area and first out for all mutual aid and automatic aid calls.
Brush 7: 1970 military truck, 5-ton 6x6. Brush 7 is second out for all brush, grass & woods fires. This truck is a refurbished military dump truck.
Unit 8: 1999 Chevrolet Silverado ¾ ton 4x4.This serves as a support truck. This truck is used as first out for all EMS calls and brush, grass, & woods fires. This truck also hauls the rescue boat, hose trailer, snowmobile, ATV, & rescue boggan to emergency calls.
Rescue Boat 10: Our rescue boat it is equipped with anything needed for water rescue calls. The Fort Fairfield Police Dept also shares this.

Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue - Emergency Medical Services
The Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue Dept provides first responder service to the Town of Fort Fairfield. We first respond for Crown Ambulance. We assist Crown Ambulance on medical and trauma calls. We first respond anytime the ambulance is out of town, on another call, or needs help on a call. Currently at this time we have 8 licensed EMS people. We have 4 First Responders, 3 EMT-Basics, and 1 EMT-Paramedic. These first responders train regularly to keep their license up.

The Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue Dept trains every Tuesday night. The volunteers train for countless hours each year. Training consists of: pumps, fire attack, EMS, extracation, ladders, water rescue, and other miscellaneous topics. Our volunteers participate in classes outside of the fire department on their own time that includes many nights & weekends, such as the Maine State Fire Academy, Fire Attack Schools, County Classes, State classes, EMS classes, and the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland.
Fort Fairfield Fire/Rescue Dept - Public Education 
The Fort Fairfield Fire Dept provides public education to the community for groups of all ages. We can provide presentations, tours, and safety demos, geared towards your audience. The Fire Dept travels to a number of classrooms each year and presents fire and life safety education to students of all ages. We also participate in community events. JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER’S
Junior Firefighter program is geared towards finding out what the fire service is all about. Junior Firefighters will learn a wide variety of task. Junior Firefighters are limited to what they can do. Junior Firefighters are prohibited to unsafe environments.
Requirements are for becoming a Fort Fairfield Junior Firefighter:
- Must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years old.
- Must be enrolled in school or have a diploma/GED.
- Must maintain a “C” average to be an active member.
