Fort Fairfield Youth Cross-Country Ski Program: The Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department in conjunction with the 21st Century Program is conducting a Youth Cross-Country Ski Program for boys and girls in grades 2-6.  The program is currently being held from 3:00-4:15pm on Wednesday afternoons beside the F.F. Elementary School (meet in the cafeteria after school) and continues through March 21.  Skiers will be taught the basics of cross-country skiing along with proper ski care, how to wax skis, and all sorts of fun ski games and activities.  There is no cost to participate in this program.  

 

NHSC Saturday Morning Kids Ski Club: The Saturday Morning Kids Ski Club is being held at the Nordic Heritage Center on Saturdays from 10:00-11:30am and continues through March 10.  This program is for all boys and girls in grades 1-8 from throughout Aroostook County and New Brunswick and is designed to teach kids and parents the fun of cross-country skiing through games, play, group ski adventures, and the use of a terrain park.  There is no cost to participate in this program as it is being sponsored by TAMC and the NHSC.  Sarah Gahagan will be the lead instructor.  Parents and volunteers are encouraged to help with the program.  Skiers must have their own equipment to participate (rentals are available at Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department).  For more program information, please go to www.nordicheritagecenter.org or call the parks and recreation department at 472-3882.   

 

Cross-Country Ski Rentals: A reminder to any students in grades 2-8 that do not have cross-country ski equipment of their own, the Fort Fairfield Parks and Recreation Department will rent you a complete ski package for the entire ski season for only $25 ($20 for each additional sibling).  Contact the Parks and Recreation Department to make an appointment to pick up your ski equipment (supplies are limited so don’t hesitate).

 

Indoor Soccer:  Indoor Soccer for boys and girls in grades 2-8 will be held on Tuesday and Thursday at the community center beginning February 28 and ending April 12.  The program is divided into three separate age groups to be held at three different times.  Grades 2 and 3 will play from 3:00-4:15pm, grades 4 and 5 play from 4:15-5:30pm, and grades 6-8 play from 5:30-6:45pm.  Bus transportation directly from school to the community center is available for participants in grades 2-5.  Parents are responsible to pick up their child at the community center when their program ends.  Indoor soccer players should bring their own shin guards, mouth guards, and proper sneakers in order to play (shin guards are available for those who do not have any).

 

Adult Basketball: The Fort Fairfield Community Center is open for adult basketball on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00pm.  The program is for high school age and over.  Teams are selected each night from all those in attendance.

 

Co-ed Volleyball: Co-ed Volleyball is played every Sunday evening at the Fort Fairfield Community Center from 6:00-8:00pm.  The program is for participants high school age and over, with teams being selected each night from all those in attendance.  

 

Walking, Jogging, and Exercise:  The Community Center is open for walking, jogging, and exercise Monday-Friday (except holidays) from 6:30-11:30am.  Participants are asked to please not wear street shoes when exercising in the Community Center.

 

Skating Rink: The municipal skating rink located next to the swimming pool is now open for the season.  The warming hut is scheduled to be open this winter Monday-Friday after school from 4:00-6:00pm (Friday until 7:00pm), Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12:00-4:00pm, and holidays and school vacations from 12:00-4:00pm (all hours are subject to ice and weather conditions).  Skaters are also welcome to use the rink even if the warming hut is not open.  Skates are available to use at no charge for anyone who does not have their own.   

 

Open Gymnasium:  The community center gymnasium and game room are open for all ages on Friday and Saturday evenings from 6:00-8:30pm, Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 12:00-4:00pm, and holidays and school vacations from 12:00-4:00pm.  All participants are reminded to please not wear street sneakers or shoes on the gym floor but rather change into clean sneakers once you arrive at the gymnasim.

 

Zumba Gold:  Zumba Gold dance classes are held at the Fort Fairfield Community Center Gymnasium every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 10:00-11:00am.  Theresa Bonner is the instructor.  For more information, please contact Theresa at 227-1949.  

 

Zumba: Zumba dance classes are held at the Fort Fairfield Elementary School each Monday and Wednesday evening from 6:30-7:30pm and Saturday morning from 9:00-10:00am.  Jamie Parsley is the primary instructor.  For more information, please contact Jamie at 551-7170.

 

G-Force Laser Tag:  Laser Tag will be held at the community center on January 14 and March 24 from 4:00-8:00pm.  Grades 2-8 will play from 4:00-6:00pm and grades 6 and up play from 6:00-8:00pm.  The cost is $3 per game, $10 for a two-hour session, or $15 for all four hours.

 

NHC Cross-Country Skiing and Snow Shoeing:  The Nordic Heritage Center is open to the public free of charge for cross-country skiing and to snowshoe on their fantastic winter trails.  Skiers have the opportunity to ski on over 20 kilometers of professionally groomed trails (both classic and skate tracks), five kilometers of which are lighted trails that are open every evening until 8:30pm.  Complete ski and snowshoe rental packages are available at the NHC Welcome Center for those without proper equipment who are looking to give it a try.  For more information about the NHC including welcome center hours and other programs, please call 762-6972 or visit nordicheritagecenter.org.

 

Himie Towle Memorial X-C Ski Frolic:  The annual Memorial Ski Frolic will be held at the Nordic Heritage Center on Saturday, March 10 with registration from 9:30-11:30am.  The cost is $20 per family, $10 for adults, or $5 for youth and includes an event giveaway (first 75 to register) and a free lunch after.  The 7.5 kilometer freestyle main event (classic track also) starts at 12:00noon and is the final event in the Aroostook Cup Winter Series.  Youth races for ages 12 and under are scheduled to take place from 11:00-11:45am with different distances for the various ages.  Awards will be given in 22 different age categories.  For more information, please contact Tom at 472-3882.
